Skin cancer prevention for students in Utah: Why should we care? and resources for schools

Breakout Description:

This breakout session will present information on skin cancer and methods of preventing skin cancer, and the relevance of skin cancer to youth in Utah. The session will cover resources available to teachers and administrators on promoting sun safety in schools. The presenters will also share their experience implementing an evidence-based skin cancer prevention program in Utah high schools.

Garrett Harding


Garrett Harding works as the Community Outreach Manager at Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, where he leads a team to provide evidence-based cancer prevention education, screening, and risk reduction interventions to the residents of Utah and the Mountain West. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Utah Tobacco Free Alliance and on the executive committee of the Utah Cancer Action Network.

Dr. Yelena Wu



Yelena P. Wu, PhD. Yelena is an investigator at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Utah. She is a clinical child psychologist and conducts research on skin cancer prevention among pediatric populations. Her clinical practice focuses on families who receive genetic testing for a familial cancer risk.
