Did you know that yoga is linked to higher test scores? It also helps teens get a good night sleep, combats depression, reduces injury in athletes, boosts self-confidence, and helps students with ADHD be able to focus better. In this class you will learn about many other benefits of yoga, and you’ll leave feeling energized and relaxed as we practice a few breath techniques and postures. Half of the class time will be informative and half will be interactive. All fitness levels, ages and abilities will feel totally comfortable!

DeEtte Englebright
My name is DeEtte Englebright and I
teach yoga at Wasatch High School in the beautiful Heber Valley. I'm
married, I have four children, an English Lab, and a hippie garden
complete with a chicken coop. An unlikely path brought me to where I am
now.
I graduated from Utah State
University with a Secondary Ed. Degree in History and English. I
then became a "home educator" and stayed home with my children
for the next 17 years. During those years I actively volunteered in
my community, church, and children's schools. I was an avid runner,
gardener, yogi, and life-enthusiast.
One year while serving as a room
mom for a kindergarten class, I offered to teach a yoga session for a
breakout activity. The teacher eagerly enlisted my services and we were
both shocked as the kids literally ate it up! They would beg for
more! I noticed that the kids who were generally the most
distracted and off-task were the ones who loved it the most.
This got me thinking and I started
researching the benefits of yoga for all ages, and in particular, teens.
I was surprised to find that teens often see the most drastic improvements to
their mood, attention span, and self-confidence when they practice
yoga. Over the next few years I worked on a Sport Yoga
Certification and 200 hour Certification, and was hired by UVU to
teach Power Yoga. I begged our district to let me start a yoga
program at Wasatch High School, and eventually
got permission to start one class. I hoped to have at least 25
students. That was 2 1/2 years ago, and I have 350 students this
year. Students are seeing the physical, emotional and academic benefits
they're getting from attending a regular yoga class. I feel blessed
everyday as I watch them let go of their egos and start tapping into
mindfulness.
